Seniority Announcements - January 2013This article marks the latest additions to the dizzy height of Senior members in our community. With just over 1000 deviants holding the highly saught after ` -- it's clearly a moment that deserves recognition.:faq29:So what does it take to become a Senior? That's a question many have asked and have never really been able to get a straight answer on. Some have gained Seniority as a thank you for their time spent as a Volunteer, or to recognise their contribution to a particular project or collaborative action. Some have gained Seniority because of their community spirit, providing help and assistance to many other deviants and taking time out to promote the work of others in the community. Some people have received Seniority because of their artistic endevours, having a positive influence on their peers by sharing resources, providing constructive criticism and by being a voice that stands out above the many other
November ThankstivityIt is easy to point out the flaws....Cliques, lack of communication, bad art that gets too many views, good art that doesn't get enough views, crappy DDs, and on and on and on. The complaints people have about deviantART could fill a book the length of the Bible, but November is a month for remembering what we have to be thankful for and so I challenge you, Solutions Seekers, to take a look around and find at least three things about deviantART that make you thankful for the community. The ChallengeCreate a deviation or journal that explores at least three reasons you're thankful for deviantART. It can be anything from tutorials and other resources to friends you've made to great art you've stumbled across to a favorite group. Whatever it is that keeps you coming back, I want to know about it.Rules One entry per deviant. For this challenge, no mature content please. Let's make
The dA commUNIty and YouThe dA commUNIty and YouWhen first stumbling upon deviantArt, whether 5 months or 5 years ago, we decided to join because we wanted to share our art. We wanted our work to be seen, to be appreciated, to be understood. However, it can be a long and difficult journey from obscurity into the spotlight. Many newcomers and even long-time deviants are sometimes overwhelmed and discouraged by a seeming lack of interest and/or exposure for their work. After all, that's what dA is for, right? Not necessarily - the answer to that question is a bit more involved than a simple "yes" or "no".Society in general has become used to instant gratification. Want the new album by your favorite artist? With the click of a mouse, you've got it! Need to get in touch with your cousin who's moved to Italy? It's easy -- just Skype! The college you want to attend is across the country? No problem, they offer online courses! You may be wondering how this is relevant to dA. Well,
Daily Deviation Suggestion Drive!Back By Popular Demand! In January of 2012, the community was challenged by `thorns to do something about their complaints on dA. Thus was born this very group! But before the group, it was just a fledgling idea on `Kneeling-Glory's account that began with a DD Suggestion Contest. The results of that contest were overwhelming. And so, under the prodding of quite a few Community Volunteers, we're going to do it again! UPDATE: Less than 1 week in and we've already got 100 suggested DDs and 2 accepted suggestions!! Keep up the great work guys and gals. Please remember that you need to leave a link to every deviation you suggest in this journa
Fella's Film Contest! It's not long to go until the deadline for Fella's Film Contest! If you'd like to submit your film creations, remember that although the contest began on 5th January, you are welcome to submit films which were made BEFORE that date too. So if you have awesome film in your gallery that's 3 minutes long or less, you're welcome to submit it now! Here's all the original info for the contest...Hello Everyone!Fella would like to invite you to be a part of a new contest, one that looks at a medium that is often overlooked on deviantART, Film.Since before the 1900s film has been a part of people's lives. Today, feature films are created with huge budgets in mass of $200 Million+. But, often times short films, which do not get seen as much in the United States (but are more readily available in some other countries) are some of the most impressive films. We would like to invite you to make a short film. All the details are below, so get on it!Submission of film on d
On the importance of submitting icons correctly. Why this journal? The reason I'm writing this journal is because miscatting has become quite a popular practice on dA and as such it needs to be addressed from time to time. Before a new Icon-CV had been appointed (say hi to ^ValaSedai as the new Icon-CV!), I had discussed with ^ClefairyKid about writing up a small journal (though likely text-wall) about the importance of correctly submitting icons and pixel art. While some deviants may be doing it on purpose, due to the recent changes in the Fair Exposure-algorythm, a lot of you don't, which is why I hope this journal helps clear up some misunderstandings about both galleries. Most of the info in this journal caters specifically towards iconists, so iconists: welcome to you!But even if you aren't an iconist, the information in this article will hopefully still be beneficial to you: welcome to you as well!Reasons why submitting correctly is beneficial for you.
Want to volunteer? #Fella needs you!#fella aims to be a welcoming space, primarily for new members, providing useful resources and practical assistance from friendly, approachable deviants, leading to easier navigation of the site and an enjoyable, positive deviantART experience...and we want you to help! We're looking for dedicated deviants who are willing to volunteer at the group as part of Fella's Posse of epic admins for at least 6 months. Volunteers should be able to pro-actively and confidently create, contribute to and manage ongoing informative blogs, features about all kinds of art and contests for members at #fella. If that sounds like you and you can answer with a resounding and enthusiastic YES! to the following questions, read on and apply... Have you been an active member of deviantART for at least one year? Are you passionate about sharing information and being a positive and helpful influence? Do you have dirty great dollops o

Points Challenge: Be A Hero, Report a Miscat!Miscats: What are they? Why do they matter? How do they happen? REMINDER: This challenge is only open until October 31st! Get your comments in by then or miss out on points!A "miscat" is a deviation that has been submitted to the wrong gallery, or mis-categorized, on deviantART. For example, literature does not belong in the photography gallery, even if there is a photograph supplied as a preview picture for the writing. They matter for several reasons. Miscats make searching for specific types of deviations tedious, particularly if you are looking for newer submissions. A search of the Writing Tutorials gallery for popular deviations in the last 24 hours brought up four deviations, all miscats. Miscats also make the site disorganized and even harder to navigate for new comers. Lastly, they make your work harder to reach by taking up space in the wrong gallery.I'm sure others can think of reasons why miscats are annoying, and I invite you to leav
Love the Stache!Hi everyone Movember is quickly coming to a close and the shave-off events are eagerly awaited by our Mo'Bros who have suffered through all sorts of mo-mishaps over the last 28 days. For those of you that have participated, I thank you and ask you to make the last two days really count and reach out to your friends and families for those last minute donations. For the rest of you, I am making this final push on behalf of all of the deviantART Sta.sh teams to request that you reach into your pockets and make a donation, regardless of how big or small, to the Movember effort. I realize how hard this may be considering you're likely broke after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but should you find a dollar or two - we would greatly appreciate your donation The amount isn’t important, every little bit helps Movember continue its funding of world-class programs. If you want to know more about what you’ll be helping to fund, you can visit

The Kindness Quilt Community ProjectThe Kindness Quilt is a blanket created from the love of deviants right here on deviantART. This quilt is built upon love, respect and gratitude. Every person has a reason to and a means to create their own quilt square. To say thank you, to share a collaborative work, to show off a gift, commission or request, as a present, or simply as a design. The quilt square is 500x500 pixels, and when included in a completed quilt, can be resized smaller. Quilt squares are submitted to the Quilt Squares gallery.Quick LinksDownload the quilt square
