Film/Animation Gallery Restructure Proposals!Hello Film and Animation community! We have recently been working on updating all the galleries on deviantART and right now we would like to give you a chance to have your say and have some input on each respective gallery. Ideally we would like to simplify/reduce them, so your feedback as a community is crucial to us!So with regards to the Film & Animation side of it, at the moment these are the ideas so far (please feel free to dispute them if you don't feel they are good ideas!):Merge Stop Motion into a top level categoryAt the moment we have 2 stop motion categories:Animation > Stop MotionVideo > Stop MotionNow really I think stop motion animation is simply stop motion animation, so having it as a sub-category in animation and video seems a bit redundant. So I think having a merger so that all stop motion animation is in the animation category alone makes more sense?Merge Demo Reels and Logos & Production IDsS

Gallery Makeover: Icons and Handhelds We're slowly nearing the end of this first phase of the Gallery Restructure Project which means if you would still like to give us any kind of feedback related to the Icons & Handhelds gallery structure, now's the time to do so! Please also scroll down and see which points have been brought up by the community and feel free to tell us what you think about them. As recently announced by $Moonbeam13 in this article deviantART will soon be undergoing a rather extensive makeover of the gallery system in order to streamline categories and simplify submissions. That will amongst others include the removal of dead categories, merging where it makes sense or simply a complete restructuring of a whole root category if necessary. Community input is highly important for this so with this journal you have the opportunity to specifically give feedback concerning the Icons

Origami - Art of Paper FoldingOrigami is an art form that transforms paper into a sculpture through paper folding and sculpting techniques. Thus, cutting or gluing paper would not be considered to be origami, but 'kirigami' instead. The name 'Origami' is Japanese, in which 'Ori' is the Japanese word for folding, and 'kami' the word for paper. It is generally believed that origami originated from Japan, but, as there are few records, this is not certain. Nevertheless, Japan developed origami into an intense art form that still exists to this day.In the past, instructions for origami were passed down in spoken form and not written down. Some say that origami first originated in China in 1st Century, in which paper was then brought to Japan by Buddhist monks in 6th Century. Others claim that paper was made in the 8th Century by the Arabs, with Moors bringing the art of paper folding to Spain in the 12th Century. Spain then spread to South America, and as trade routes developed, origami was thus introduced to Europe a
On the importance of submitting icons correctly. Why this journal? The reason I'm writing this journal is because miscatting has become quite a popular practice on dA and as such it needs to be addressed from time to time. Before a new Icon-CV had been appointed (say hi to ^ValaSedai as the new Icon-CV!), I had discussed with ^ClefairyKid about writing up a small journal (though likely text-wall) about the importance of correctly submitting icons and pixel art. While some deviants may be doing it on purpose, due to the recent changes in the Fair Exposure-algorythm, a lot of you don't, which is why I hope this journal helps clear up some misunderstandings about both galleries. Most of the info in this journal caters specifically towards iconists, so iconists: welcome to you!But even if you aren't an iconist, the information in this article will hopefully still be beneficial to you: welcome to you as well!Reasons why submitting correctly is beneficial for you.
