Up and Coming IIThere is an abundance of talent here on deviantART, and I love browsing our fashion photography galleries for emerging artists, at the forefront of the next wave of new talent. There are always people who catch my eye, and I collect their names and keep an eye on them, because watching people make the most of their talent and fulfill their potential is a wonderful experience. I'm going to share some of the fresh talent I'm currently admiring and amazed by, so that when they're out shooting big campaigns and stories across the world, we can say I told you they were special!"So have a look at these wonderful artists, this feature is the first in the series, check out the previous one here.~GARETHHHGareth is part of a fresh wave of talent hailing from Wales but working a lot in London. Unafraid to experiment with colour, Gareth's conceptual-meets-fashion photography really makes an impact on the viewer. Back To The Stre
There's something new in town...For a long while now, I've been itching to create a group that encompasses the whole of the People & Portraits Photography Gallery. After chatting it through with ^3wyl today, we decided to launch one - and so ~PeopleAndPortraits was born! It's for every single sub-gallery of People and Portraits Photography. Every single one. You'll find a folder for every one of them and you'll find that you can submit not one but TWO works a week to each one. What else are we giving you...well... The chance to show case your work by having it submitted to the group A 'photographer' of the week each week People and Portraits Exposed - a weekly series of articles Articles from other community volunteers who handle People and Portrait Galleries Feedback - we would LOVE to give you feedback! Photography Weekly: Edition Thirty SixPhotography Weekly Header created by ~TouchedD"Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them.”-William ShakespeareBasking in the glory of finally getting recognised for your hard efforts and photographic skill is pretty awesome and at the start of this week I took the opportunity to enjoy *Fuzzypiggy's after he got published in a UK Photography Magazine. It's really nice when something like that happens and the knowledge that across the country - and because of deviantART and other networks - across the world, people are looking at your work. And if you're me, smiling! I once stumbled across *lauren-rabbit's work in Black and White Photography Magazine and was truly proud that somebody I had found here on deviantART was here in my mag! So have you been published? Has your work received any recognition that makes you proud? What are your tips to getting out there and having your work showcased?
Infrared Photography Gallery: Your Thoughts? For some time now there have been calls from the community for an Infrared Gallery as it's becoming a popular technique and often there is confusion over where the work actually belongs. The powers that be have been listening and have decided that it would be really useful to have your feedback as to where this Gallery should go. At the moment, Infrared Photographs are spread across the Photography Galleries from Animals, Plants and Nature to Miscellaneous. What is Infrared Photography? `gilad explained it quite succinctly over seven years ago now in this journal. Infrared Photography (or IR) shows a magical, thermal type effect of a world that, without specific filters or applications, appears quite normal. It can be achieved using a filter on specific D-SLR cameras or it can be achieved with special films in Analog. This clear technique divis

Without your contributions, interest, faves, feedback and participation, projects like these would go no where. PE Note to Daily DeviationHello all,In this section of Daily Deviations (DD) PE week I wanted to write about how your suggestions are processed and then turned into DDs, but with a bit more of a focus on the process of how we Community Volunteers (CVs) utilize the note system. I felt it was a place where some common problems arise which may not be talked about all too often resulting in confusion and frustration for both suggesters and CVs. The Note SystemI think many are aware of this but just for the sake of being clear, CVs use the same exact note system as every other user on the site. We do not have any special bells and whistles to organize our notes other than the same tools you all are also given. There is no special tool or program that sorts or does anything special with our DD suggestions for us, it is entirely up to us, how we choose to sort them in our note system. Let's take a closer look at how the process works, shall we? :bul
Photography Fortnightly: Edition Forty EightPhotography Bi-Weekly Header created by ~TouchedD "Which of my photographs is my favorite? The one I'm going to take tomorrow." ~ Imogen CunninghamI'm loving jars this month. I'm not sure why, other than the fact that I saw some set up at a craft fair that I had a table at, and I just fell in love with them. A couple of large jars with some fairy lights nestled in them - the effect was immense. It was so simple too! Sadly the people weren't actually selling the lights, but once I'd made a little profit on my sales, I went over clutching my ten pound note and picked out a few. So I was delighted to see that on Flipboard today, there was an article exploring 19 great photos of jars. If you're stuck for inspiration, grab a jam jar (take the jam out first maybe) and start shooting. Shoot things through them, around them, in them - get creative! Jars are awesome. General Ph

Literature Previews, DDs, and YouIntroducing a new policy regarding Literature Gallery DD features. While not everyone uses preview images and they're not technically part of the work, we're going to require that preview images be properly credited for future features. This does include preview images you've customized that use texture or other such resources. An important note: Not all images are stock. If an image isn't stock and you want to use it as your preview, please make sure that you've obtained explicit permission from the artist. We will also accept previewed stories that were done for a picture-based prompt if the prompter asked permission to use those images. Of course, you'll need to link to the prompt in your comments.**Also, if you are using credited stock but the stock terms say it's not to be used like that, someone—okay, it's me—is going to tell the stock creator. Please respect people who put up these resources and read their own rules before using. I've seen a few that w
This tiny insignificant thing mildly displeases meI love browsing the Suggestions forum but am seriously blown away by how many times people post threads suggesting/requesting/demanding that dA alter the way the site works in order that they never have to see anything that isn't to their specific personal taste.I'm not talking about the Mature Content filter or submissions with violate dA's policies here. I mean people expecting the entire site to change so that they don't ever encounter a thumbnail-sized image of a cat or My Little Pony or [insert other random object or concept here] while looking at the front page in Newest or Popular modes.I find myself typing pretty much the same thing to these people on a regular basis, so thought it would be easier to simply make a journal about it that I can link to. So here it is.Ok, first of all, context. dA is a huge, global website for artists and art appreciators of all ages with all sorts of tastes in what they create and look at. The fron
PE Daily Deviations- Presentation of your workHello all! Well we’ve had a fascinating week so far; a week which hopefully has provided some insight not only to the process of DD selection but helped you understand what we look for in DDs as CVs. As we draw to the end of this week, I bring you an article which will whet your Saturday with thoughts that don’t just apply to the DD feature, but something which should be a consideration to everything you submit to dA. I am talking about deviation presentation. Why is Presentation important?Art isn’t always about just being “creative”. There are techniques and skills which develop over time which contribute to the quality of the work you produce and alongside this comes a developed understanding of good presentation.Good presentation could be anything from cropping a photograph, to spell checking your literature. These are common sense things that in the rush of wanting to show off your creativity can sometimes be
